With a focus on inclusivity, Athletics United proactively engages with new American families to offer free access to activities promoting personal growth and belonging.

What We Do:

 

Through weekly activities (athletics practices and tutoring), Athletics United creates a safe space for all participants to foster friendships, build trust and strengthen community.

We rely on the generous donations of our local community and do not charge anyone to participate.

Get Involved

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to commit time and energy to strengthen our local community. Volunteers assist with weekly practices and events through: motivating/teaching athletes, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all, and mentoring young people. There is no athletic requirement to volunteer and all are welcome. Mike Aidan

Mike Spence

Founder/Executive Director

Mike is a former NCAA coach at Utah State University and the University of Oklahoma. He has been running competitively since high school and represented Team USA 6 times in Track & Field and Cross Country. He is currently a stay-at-home dad to two boys.   

Certifications: Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Youth Mental Health First Aid, SafeSport

Kristi Elliot

Kristi Spence

Founder/Director

Mom to two boys, dietitian, former collegiate distance runner and 2008 Olympic Trials qualifier in the marathon, Kristi enjoys anything outdoors. With a background in sports nutrition, Kristi currently works in marketing and communications for Dairy West.

Certifications: Wilderness First Responder (WFR), Youth Mental Health First Aid, SafeSport

Glynn Hadley

Founder/Director

Born and raised in New Zealand, cross country and marathons have been his main competitive outlets. Glynn immigrated to the United States in 2012 in pursuit of his wife's academic career. He relocated to Cache Valley in 2014 where both he and wife work at Utah State University.

Trhas Tafere

Director

Mom to two boys and a girl, Trhas immigrated to Cache Valley in 2013, where she joined the Department of Anthropology at Utah State University. With a background in Sociology, Anthropology, and Global health Trhas is currently a vulnerable Populations Coordinator at Bear River Health Department.

Sara Boghosian

Director

Sara is passionate about soccer and in 2020 proposed and launched the Athletics United soccer program. Originally from Southern California, Sara is the granddaughter of a refugee, and now works as a clinical psychology professor and counseling specialist at Utah State University.
